Air/Fuel (A/F) Solenoid Valve

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature and run engine at idle speed. Connect a dwell meter (set on 6-cylinder scale) to A/F check connector terminal Brown/Yellow wire on side of carburetor.
  2. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum sensor and plug. Connect a vacuum pump to vacuum sensor. Apply 20 in. Hg and check that dwell meter reads 20-70 degrees.
  3. Release vacuum and check that dwell meter reads zero degrees. If dwell meter does not read as specified, check ECU terminal IE and vacuum sensor. Remove vacuum pump and reconnect vacuum hose.
  4. Increase engine speed to 4500 RPM and check that dwell meter reads a fixed zero degrees. If dwell meter reading is 72 degrees, check idle and neutral switches. If reading is other than zero degrees or 72 degrees, replace ECU.
