Installation (B3000 & B4000)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1998 Mazda Protege, 1998 Mazda Millenia, 1998 Mazda MPV, 1998 Mazda B4000, and 1998 Mazda B3000. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install Synchro Positioner (303-589) on synchronizer housing. See Fig 1. Rotate synchronizer shaft until vane on shaft aligns with slot on synchro positioner. Rotate synchro positioner until engaged into notch in housing. Dip drive gear in engine oil.
  2. NOTE: During installation, the arrow on the sychro positioning tool will rotate clockwise until oil pump intermediate shaft and camshaft gear engages.
  3. Install camshaft synchronizer housing assembly. On 3.0L engine, the arrow on the synchro positioning tool should be 38 degrees from centerline of engine. On 4.0L engine, the arrow on the synchro positioning tool should be 10 degrees from centerline of engine. See Fig 3.
  4. On all engines, install hold-down clamp and tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install CMP sensor to synchronizer and tighten to specification. Reconnect wiring to CMP sensor. Connect negative battery cable.
