System Function Test

NOTE: Actuator on turbocharged models can not be checked using ACC Tester (49 9200 010). It must be checked using an ohmmeter. SeeFig 2 .

Test system with ACC Tester (49 9200 010). SeeFig 1 . Items (main switch, actuator-VAC, actuator-VENT 2, actuator-VENT 1, clutch/brake switch, combination/inhibitor switch (automatic transaxle models), and generator) are verified by check lights on tester.

Tester also has 2 switches, a check switch and a slide switch. Check switch checks actuator operation with engine running. When this switch is held on with engine running, engine speed is increased and held at 2000-3000 RPM. If RPMs do not come up, adjust free play of actuator inner cable. Free play for 323 models is .004-.012" (1.0-3.0 mm). Free play for B2000 is .20-.31" (5-8 mm). Slide switch should be in "L" position before check switch is used.

NOTE: When installing ACC tester, turn ignition and main switch off. When performing all testing steps, main and ignition switches must be in the "ON" position. Generator light can be in the "ON" or "OFF" position during testing.

  1. When testing main switch continuity, all lights except clutch/brake switch and combination/inhibitor switch should be off. If all lights are off, check fuse, connectors, ignition, and main switches.
  2. To test brake switch continuity, depress brake pedal. All lights except combination/inhibitor and clutch/brake switch should be off. If clutch/brake switch light is off, check switch and wiring.
  3. To test clutch switch continuity, depress clutch pedal. All lights except clutch/brake and combination switch should be off. If clutch/brake switch light is off, check switch and wiring.
  4. To test "SET", "COAST", or "RESUME" positions of combination switch, turn switch to appropriate position. All lights except clutch/brake and combination switch lights should be off. If combination/inhibitor switch light is off, check appropriate switch position and wiring.
NOTE: When checking actuator, ensure that engine speed increases. If engine speed increases more than 4,000 RPM, release switch immediately.
  5. Start engine and place shift lever in "N". All lights except clutch/brake and combination switch lights should be off. Test actuator operation by setting slide switch to "L" position. Then turn check switch to on and hold.
  6. Engine speed should increase to 2000-3000 RPM, and all lights should be on except main switch. VAC light should go from off to on. To check speed sensor output, raise and support vehicle. Allow engine to idle in first gear. All lights except clutch/brake and combination/inhibitor switch should be off. If generator light does not flash, speed sensor or wiring is faulty.
  7. On all models, check actuator solenoid resistance. Resistance should be between 25 to 35 ohms on all models except RX7. SeeFig 2 . Resistance readings for RX7 should be between 23 and 40 ohms while checking terminals a-c, b-c and c-d. SeeFig 2 . Actuators on turbocharged 626 models should have about 20 ohms of resistance between terminals a-c. SeeFig 2 .
