Transmission Fluid Heat Exchanger: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting .
  2. If equipped, remove the retainers and splash shield.

  3. Remove and discard the transmission fluid heat exchanger bolt.

    1. Release the harness retainer tab.
    2. Slide the harness retainer off the fluid heat exchanger.

  4. Remove the transmission fluid heat exchanger nuts.

  5. Remove the coolant tube hanger nut and separate the hanger from the stud bolt.

  6. Clamp the coolant inlet and outlet hoses at the front of the engine. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

  7. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    1. Separate the transmission fluid heat exchanger from the transmission case.
    2. Lower the transmission fluid heat exchanger to disconnect the hoses and remove it from the vehicle.
