Steering Column - Install After Access

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM Color Coding .

  1. Install the steering column.

    1. Install the new steering column mounting bolts.

      Torque: 21 lb.ft (28 Nm)

    2. Install the new steering column mounting nuts.

      Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

  2. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

    Connect the upper shaft to the steering column and install the new bolt.

    Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

  3. NOTE: Vehicle equipped with power adjustable steering column shown, others similar.

    Position the steering column harness, attach the clips and connect the steering column harness electrical connectors.

  4. Install the lower steering column shroud.

  5. Install the lower steering column shroud bolts.

    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

  6. Position the steering column reinforcement panel and install the bolts.

    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

  7. Install the steering column opening trim panel.

  8. Install the gap hider.

  9. Repower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Repowering .
