Steering Column - Remove for Access

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM COLOR CODING

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Interior Trim Remover
  1. Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .
  2. Fully extend and lower the steering column.

  3. Release the tabs and position the gap hider aside. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  4. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.

  5. Remove the bolts and the steering column reinforcement panel.

  6. Remove the lower steering column shroud bolts.

  8. NOTE: Vehicle equipped with power adjustable steering column shown, others similar.

    Disconnect the steering column harness electrical connectors, detach the clips and position the steering column harness aside.

  9. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

    Remove and discard the bolt and disconnect the upper steering column shaft.

    1. Remove and discard the steering column mounting nuts.
    2. Remove and discard the steering column mounting bolts and remove the steering column.
