Main Control Cover 3.7L Ti-VCT: Installation

  1. Inspect the transmission main control cover seal for damage and install new if necessary.

  2. NOTE: Inspect the 20-pin solenoid body connector seal and make sure the seal is on the solenoid body connector or a transmission fluid leak will occur resulting in transmission damage.
    NOTE: Install the studbolts in the correct locations as noted during disassembly.

    Install the front cover and loosely install the bolts.

  3. Tighten the main control cover bolts in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).

  4. Install the transmission fluid cooler thermal bypass valve nuts.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  5. Visual check. Apply the specified lubricant to the specified component.
    1. Install the backing ring (7J324)
    2. Lubricate and install the seal (7D285) Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-10-QLVC (US); CXT-10-LV12 (Canada).

  6. Install the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tube and install new bolts.
    • Tighten the bolt to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
    • Tighten the nut to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  7. Connect the transmission electrical connector.

  8. Install the wiring harness fastener to the main control cover stud.

  9. Install the ACL assembly and outlet pipe. Refer to Intake Air Distribution and Filtering .
  10. Fill the transmission with clean transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill .
