Torque Converter Housing: Disassembly

  1. Using special tools, remove the transfer shaft roller bearing cup. Use Special Service Tool: 204-069 (T81P-1104-C) Remover/Installer, Front Wheel Hub., 307-577 Transfer Gear Bearing race remover.

  2. Remove the transfer shaft roller bearing shim.

  3. Punch a hole in the transfer shaft tube fluid dam. Use the General Equipment: Punch.

  4. If the transfer shaft bearing cup was removed, use a dent puller to remove the fluid dam from the torque converter housing. Use the General Equipment: Puller.

  5. Install the special tool on the bearing cup.

    1. Position the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 in the torque converter housing with the tabs on the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 aligned with the slots in the torque converter housing. Use Special Service Tool: 307-586 Differential bearing cup remover.
    2. Expand the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 by hand.
    3. While holding the Differential Bearing Cup Remover 307-586 in the expanded position with the tabs in the slots of the torque converter housing, tighten the nut.

  6. Using a press, press the differential bearing cup out of the torque converter housing. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press.

  7. Remove the differential bearing preload shim.
