Principles of Operation: Notes

The High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN), Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) and Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) use an unshielded twisted pair cable of data (+) and data (-) circuits.

The HS-CAN  operates at a maximum data transfer speed of 500 Kbps and is designed for real-time information transfer and control. The MS-CAN  and I-CAN  operate at a maximum data transfer speed of 125 Kbps for bus messages and is designed for general information transfer.

The HS-CAN  , MS-CAN  and the I-CAN  all communicate using bussed messages. Each network uses an unshielded twisted pair cable, data bus (+) and data bus (-) circuits. In addition to scan tool communication, the networks allow sharing of information between all modules on the specific network.
