Inspection and Verification

NOTE: The speed control sensor is also known as the forward looking sensor.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Speed control sensor fascia cover
    • Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 13 (15A) (with adaptive cruise control)
      • 46 (15A)
    • Brake lamp relay (with adaptive cruise control, located in the BJB  )
    • Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) (with adaptive cruise control)
    • Speed control sensor (with adaptive cruise control)
    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Speed control deactivator switch
    • Speed control switch
    • PCM
    • ABS module (with adaptive cruise control)
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the speed control sensor is not aligned correctly, inspect for a damaged front bumper beam, sensor bracket, sensor fascia cover and cover foam (early build) or front bumper cover. If no evidence of damage, carry out the vertical alignment procedure SPEED CONTROL SENSOR ADJUSTMENT . If speed control sensor bracket is damaged, refer to SPEED CONTROL SENSOR  to replace the bracket.
  5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  6. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  7. NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC  are provided to the VCM  .
  8. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM  :
    • Check the VCM  connection to the vehicle.
    • Check the scan tool connection to the VCM  .
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
  9. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose no response from the C-CM  or the PCM.
  10. Carry out the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  11. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the C-CM  , PCM, and the ABS module.
  12. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC CHARTS . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
  13. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
