Power Steering System Filling

WARNING: Do not mix fluid types. Any mixture or any unapproved fluid could lead to seal deterioration and leaks. A leak can ultimately cause loss of fluid, which can result in a loss of power steering assist.
  1. Fill the power steering reservoir to the appropriate level.

  2. Remove the ignition coil fuse number F2-12 in the central junction box to disable the engine from starting.
  3. Raise the front wheels off the floor. For additional information, see JACKING & HOISTING .
  4. CAUTION: Do not operate the starter motor for more than 10 seconds at a time. Damage to the starter motor can result.

  5. Turn the steering wheel from stop-to-stop while cranking the engine.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. CAUTION: Do not overfill the power steering fluid reservoir.

  8. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the appropriate level.
  9. Install the ignition coil fuse number F2-12 in the central junction box.
  10. NOTE: If the power steering is noisy and accompanied by evidence of aerated fluid it will be necessary to purge the power steering system. For additional information, see POWER STEERING SYSTEM PURGING .
  11. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). For additional information, CLEARING CODES .
    • Start the engine and check the system for leaks.
