Engine Front Cover: Removal

  1. Remove the left and right valve cover (6582). Refer to VALVE COVER LH  and VALVE COVER RH .
  2. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  3. Remove the water pump pulley.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the water pump pulley (8509).

  4. Remove the crankshaft pulley. Refer to CRANKSHAFT PULLEY .
  5. Remove the bolts and position the power steering pump aside.

  6. Remove the nut and position the A/C muffler out of the way.

  7. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.

  8. Drain the engine oil.

  9. Remove the bolts.

  10. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal (6701). Refer to CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.

  13. Remove the bolt and the belt idler pulley.

  14. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of sealant.

  15. Remove the bolts and the studs, the engine front cover and the gaskets.
    • Clean and inspect the front cover and oil pan sealing surfaces.
