Removal and Installation

  1. Make sure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings notes and instructions in the deactivation procedure.
  4. Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
  5. Remove the clockspring. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  6. Remove the bolts, disconnect the two electrical connectors and remove the multi-function switch (13K359).

  7. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.

  8. Disconnect the brake shift interlock solenoid electrical connector.

  9. Disconnect and remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) sensor ring.

  10. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission range indicator (PRND21) from the steering column.

  11. Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the lower steering column shaft (3B676) from the steering column lower yoke (3N725).
    • Discard the bolt.

  12. Remove the nuts and position the steering column on the vehicle floor.

  13. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum hose extension (2B654) from the parking brake release switch (2B623).

  14. Disconnect and position the shift cable and bracket (7E395) out of the way.

  15. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
  16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  17. WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings notes and instructions in the reactivation procedure.
  18. Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION .
