Crankshaft Runout: Procedure

NOTE: Crankshaft main bearing journals must be within specifications before checking runout.

Use the Dial Indicator Gauge with Holding Fixture to measure the crankshaft runout.
- For additional information, refer to GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS for Expedition or GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS for Navigator.
- Rotate the crankshaft and subtract the lowest dial indicator reading from the highest dial indicator reading to figure the crankshaft runout. If it is out of specification, install new components as necessary. For the procedure, refer to ENGINE - 4.6L AND 5.4L (2V) for Expedition or ENGINE 5.4L (4V) for Navigator.
