  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using NGS tester, retrieve DTCs from Rear Electronic Module (REM). If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, repair DTC related concern. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM 17-pin harness connector C420e. REM is located on right side of luggage compartment, above battery. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If back-up lights turn off, check Digital Transmission Range (DTR) sensor. See DIGITAL TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If back-up lights remain illuminated, check for repair short to ground in circuit between back-up lights and REM.
