Test Av: Left Back-Up Light Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using NGS tester, retrieve DTCs from Rear Electronic Module (REM). If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, repair DTC related concern. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Using NGS tester, trigger REM active command BACKUPLMP to ON and OFF while observing back-up lights. If back-up lights do no operate properly, go to next step. If back-up lights operate properly, replace REM. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect left back-up light harness connector C451. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and left back-up light harness connector C451 terminal No. 1 (Orange/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Orange/Black wire between battery junction box and left back-up light.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM 17-pin harness connector C420e. REM is located on right side of luggage compartment, above battery. See Figure . Measure resistance of Black/Green wire between REM harness connector C420e terminal No. 9 and left back-up light harness connector C451 terminal No. 3. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms exists, replace REM. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If 5 ohms or more exist, repair open or high resistance in Black/Green wire.
