Switched System Power/Trailer Tow Relays

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Ignition switch must be cycled from LOCK to RUN position to enable Switched System Power (SSP) feature. Always enable SSP feature before proceeding with test procedures.
  1. Remove relay to be tested. Measure resistance between relay terminals. See Figure . Continuity should exist between terminals No. 85 and 86 and between terminals No. 30 and 87A. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 30 and 87. If continuity exists as specified, go to next step. If continuity exists is not as specified, replace relay.
  2. Attach jumper wire between battery positive terminal and relay terminal No. 85. Attach second jumper wire between relay terminal No. 86 and ground. Continuity should now exist between terminals No. 30 and 87. If continuity exists as specified, relay is okay at this time. If continuity does not exist as specified, replace relay.
