Test A: No Communication With Powertrain Control Module

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory system may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 58-pin harness connector C175a. PCM is located at rear of engine on passenger's side. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector C175a terminals No. 32 (Green/Yellow wire) and No. 33 (Green/Orange wire). See Fig 2 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to voltage in Green/Yellow and/or Green/Orange wires between auxiliary junction box and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and PCM 58-pin harness connector C175a terminals No. 24 (Black/Yellow wire), No. 25 (Black/Red wire), No. 26 (Black/Red wire), No. 27 (Black/Red wire) and No. 43 (Brown/Yellow wire). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
