Test G: Automatic Dimming Function Inoperative

  1. Place transmission in Park. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Set inside rear view mirror dimming control to HIGH position. Cover light sensor on rear of inside mirror. Shine bright light on inside mirror. If inside mirror does not darken, go to next step. If inside mirror darkens and driver's mirror does not darken, go to step  5 . If both mirrors darken, system is operating properly at this time.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inside mirror harness connector C917. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and inside mirror harness connector C917 Black/Pink wire terminal. If 10 volts or less exists, repair open in Black/Pink wire. If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and inside rear view mirror harness connector C917 terminal No. 6 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Set parking brake. Place transmission in Reverse. Measure voltage between ground and inside rear view mirror harness connector C917 terminal No. 5 (Black/Pink wire). If 10 volts or less exists, repair open in Black/Pink wire. If 10 volts or more exists, replace inside rear view mirror.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove driver's side view mirror harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between Yellow/Black wire and Light Blue/Orange wire terminals, while shining a light source into sensor opening at bottom of inside rear view mirror. If voltage is 1.0-1.5 volts, replace driver's side view mirror. If voltage is not 1.0-1.5 volts, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect inside rear view mirror harness connector C917. Measure resistance of Light Blue/White wire between terminal No. 3 at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917 and terminal No. 2 at driver's side view mirror harness connector C515. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Light Blue/White wire) at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between inside rear view mirror and driver's side view mirror and greater than 10 k/ohms between inside rear view mirror and ground. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Light Blue/White wire.
  7. Measure resistance of Violet wire between terminal No. 4 at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917 and terminal No. 1 at driver's side view mirror harness connector C515. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 4 (Violet wire) at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between inside rear view mirror and driver's side view mirror and greater than 10 k/ohms between inside rear view mirror and ground. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Violet wire.
  8. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Light Blue/White wire) at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 (Violet wire) at inside rear view mirror harness connector C917. If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to power in appropriate wire. If no voltage exists at all terminals, replace inside rear view mirror.
