Test N: No Module/Network Communication - No Power To NGS Tester
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Inspect New Generation Star (NGS) tester connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair connector as necessary restore harness connections and test system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. Repair as necessary and restore harness connections and test system for normal operation. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 16 (Light Blue/White wire). See Figure. If 10 volts or more exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, repair open/short in Light Blue/White wire between central junction fuse box fuse No. 20 (20-amp) and DLC. Restore harness connections and test system for normal operation.
- Measure resistance between ground and DLC terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/White wire). If both resistance readings are less than 5 ohms, repair or replace NGS tester. Restore harness connections and test system for normal operation. If either resistance reading is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire or Black/White wire between ground and DLC. Ground points are located behind left and right kick panels, near door frames. Retest system for normal operation.
