Description & Operation

WARNING: Town Car is equipped with side air bags. Before testing or repairing power seat system, disable air bag system. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait one minute. For any diagnostic or service to power seats equipped with side air bags, use Air Bag Simulators (105-R0012). Air bag simulators must be installed to air bag floor connector, and removed prior to operating vehicle. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS - TOWN CAR article.

The power seats provide horizontal, vertical, recline, tilt and lumbar support adjustments. Seat control switches are mounted on the side of the seat trim panel. Power seat circuits are protected by a maxi-fuse (30-amp) located in battery junction box and circuit breakers are located on seat track/motor assemblies. A lumbar support pad can be inflated by a separate pump controlled by a switch. Optional memory seat feature provides 2 programmable seat adjustment settings for the driver's seat. Heated seats are optional and only operate when ignition switch is in RUN position. Temperature is controlled by an adjustable switch located on front door trim panels.

Major components of the power seat system are the seat track/motor assemblies, control switches, driver's seat module, lumbar support pad, lumbar support pump and a memory set switch. A separate motor and drive mechanism provides recline adjustment. Seat motors and associated drive mechanisms are serviced as a complete assembly.
