Test D: Mirror Operates In One Second Intervals

  1. Ensure transmission is in Park. Operate both mirrors in all directions. If both mirrors move in all directions, go to next step. If either mirror does not operate in any direction, repair as necessary. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Door Module (DDM) self-test. If no DDM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DDM DTCs exists, perform appropriate test. See DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  3. Perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If no DSM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DSM DTCs exist, go to appropriate step. See DTC TEST INDEX  table.

  4. Ensure transmission is in Park. Position driver's and passenger's mirrors in center position. Operate both mirrors through complete travel in all directions. If both mirror move smoothly and completely, replace DSM. If driver's mirror does not operate properly, go to next step. If passenger's mirror does not operate properly, go to step  8 . If both mirrors do not operate properly, go to step  11 .
  5. Disconnect driver's mirror harness connector C523. Disconnect DSM harness connector C313. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 4 (Red/White wire) and No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire) at driver's mirror harness connector C523. If both resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire between driver's mirror and DSM.
  6. Measure resistance in wires between DSM harness connector C313 and driver's mirror harness connector C523. See DRIVER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
    DRIVER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION

DSM Terminal No. Mirror Terminal No. Wire Color
    9 4 Red/White
    10 1 Dark Blue/White
    13 3 Gray
    15 2 Gray/Red
  7. Measure voltage at terminals No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire), No. 2 (Gray/Red wire), No. 3 (Gray wire) and No. 4 (Red/White wire) at driver's mirror harness connector C523. If voltage does not exist at any terminal, go to step  14 . If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire between driver's mirror and DSM.
  8. Disconnect passenger's mirror harness connector C615. Disconnect DSM harness connector C313. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 1 (Violet/White wire) and No. 4 (Dark Green/White wire) at passenger's mirror harness connector C615. If both resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire between passenger's mirror and DSM.
  9. Measure resistance in wires between DSM harness connector C313 and passenger's mirror harness connector C615. See PASSENGER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
    PASSENGER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION

DSM Terminal No. Mirror Terminal No. Wire Color
    11 4 Dark Green/White
    12 1 Violet/White
    13 3 Gray
    15 2 Gray/Red
  10. Measure voltage at terminals No. 1 (Violet/White wire), No. 2 (Gray/Red wire), No. 3 (Gray wire) and No. 4 (Dark Green/White wire) at passenger's mirror harness connector C615. If voltage does not exist at any terminal, go to step  16 . If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire between passenger's mirror and DSM.
  11. Disconnect DSM harness connector C313, driver's mirror harness connector C523 and passenger's mirror harness connector C615.
