Description & Operation

Vehicle has 2 module communications networks. Both networks can be accessed by using New Generation Star (NGS) tester connected to Data Link Connector (DLC).

Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) network consists of Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) module (Navigator and Expedition Eddie Bauer) and Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC) interconnected by a pair of twisted wires (bus plus and bus minus). SCP network allows inter-module communication. SCP network is robust and will continue to function even if one bus wire is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power.

International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 network consists of Parking Aid Module (PAM), Restraint Control Module (RCM), Generic Electronic Module (GEM), Driver's Seat Module (DSM) (Navigator with memory seat), Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module, 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brake System (4WABS) module and air suspension control module interconnected by a single wire. If that wire is shorted to ground, or power, the network will fail. ISO 9141 network does not permit inter-module communication.
