Test F: Automatic Dimming Function Inoperative

  1. Using NGS tester, perform Rear Electronics Module (REM) self-test. If any DTCs exist, repair as necessary. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article for complete DTC list. If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
  2. Remove fuse No. 216 (5-amp) from Central Junction Box (CJB). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and CJB fuse No. 216 input terminal. If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, repair power supply circuit to fuse No. 216. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install fuse No. 216. Disconnect interior rear view mirror 3-pin harness connector C911. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and interior mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 1 (Pink wire). See Fig 1 . If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, repair open in Pink wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .

  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and interior rear view mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open or high resistance in Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Apply parking brake. Shift transmission into Reverse. Measure voltage between ground and interior rear view mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 3 (White/Blue wire). If more than 10 volts exists, go to step  8 . If 10 volts or less exists, go to next step.
  6. Shift transmission into Park. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Rear Electronics Module (REM) 22-pin harness connector C420B. Measure resistance of White/Blue wire between interior rear view mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 3 and REM harness connector C420B terminal No. 4. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open or high resistance in White/Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Measure resistance between ground and REM harness connector C420B terminal No. 4 (White/Blue wire). See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace REM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  8. Shift transmission into Park. Measure voltage between ground and interior rear view mirror harness connector C911 terminal No. 3 (White/Blue wire). See Fig 1 . If more than 10 volts exists, go to next step. If 10 volts or less exists, replace interior rear view mirror. If auto dimming still does not operate properly, replace REM.
  9. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect REM 22-pin harness connector C420B. Measure voltage between ground and REM harness connector C420B terminal No. 4 (White/Blue wire). See Figure . If any voltage exists, repair short to power in White/Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If no voltage exists, replace REM.
