Test D: Mirror Operates In One Second Intervals

  1. Ensure transmission is in Park. Operate both mirrors in all directions. If both mirrors move in all directions, go to next step. If either mirror does not operate in any direction, repair as necessary. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Door Module (DDM) self-test. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exists, perform appropriate test. See DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  3. Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to appropriate step. See DTC TEST PROCEDURE  table.

  4. Ensure transmission is in Park. Position driver's and passenger's mirrors in center position. Operate both mirrors through complete travel in all directions. If both mirror move smoothly and completely, replace DSM. If driver's mirror does not operate properly, go to next step. If passenger's mirror does not operate properly, go to step  8 . If both mirrors do not operate properly, go to step  11 .
  5. Disconnect driver's mirror 4-pin harness connector C521. Disconnect DSM 26-pin harness connector C342. Measure resistance between ground and driver's mirror harness connector C521 terminals No. 3 (Red/White wire) and No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire). If both resistance readings are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If either resistance reading is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire.
  6. Measure resistance in wires between DSM harness connector C342 and driver's mirror harness connector C521. See DRIVER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT TEST  table. If all resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If any resistance reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
    DRIVER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT TEST

DSM Terminal No. Mirror Terminal No. Wire Color
    9 3 Red/White
    10 1 Dark Blue/White
    13 4 Gray
    15 2 Gray/Red
  7. Measure voltage between ground and driver's mirror harness connector C521 terminals No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire), No. 2 (Gray/Red wire), No. 3 (Red/White wire) and No. 4 (Gray wire). If voltage does not exist at any terminal, go to step  14 . If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire.
  8. Disconnect passenger's mirror 4-pin harness connector C605. Disconnect DSM 26-pin harness connector C342. Measure resistance between ground and passenger's mirror harness connector C605 terminals No. 1 (Violet/White wire) and No. 3 (Dark Green/White wire). If both resistance readings are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If either resistance reading is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire.
  9. Measure resistance in wires between DSM harness connector C342 and passenger's mirror harness connector C605. See PASSENGER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT TEST  table. If all resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If any resistance reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
    PASSENGER'S POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT TEST

DSM Terminal No. Mirror Terminal No. Wire Color
    11 3 Dark Green/White
    12 1 Violet/White
    13 4 Gray
    15 2 Gray/Red
  10. Measure voltage between ground and passenger's mirror harness connector C605 terminals No. 1 (Violet/White wire), No. 2 (Gray/Red wire), No. 3 (Dark Green/White wire) and No. 4 (Gray wire). If voltage does not exist at any terminal, go to step  16 . If voltage exists at any terminal, repair short to voltage in appropriate wire.
  11. Disconnect DSM 26-pin harness connector C342, driver's mirror 4-pin harness connector C521 and passenger's mirror 4-pin harness connector C605.
