Lower Control Arm Assembly: Installation
- Position lower ball joint stud into spindle and install NEW nut. Install NEW cotter pin (if equipped). Position spring and compressor in spring pocket of upper control arm. Ensure lower coil spring end is properly positioned between holes on lower control arm. See Figure .
- Raise lower control arm, aligning pivot bushing holes in arm with mount bolt holes in crossmember. Install pivot bolts and nuts with washer installed on front bushing (next to rear of bushing, inside frame bracket). DO NOT tighten nuts.
- Remove spring compressor. Connect steering center link at pitman arm. Loosely install nut. To maintain front end alignment and prevent bushing damage, place idler arm and front wheels in straight-ahead position.
- Install shock absorber and jounce bumper. Install ABS sensor (if equipped), dust shield, rotor and caliper. Position stabilizer link to lower control arm, and install bolt, link assembly and nut.
- With vehicle at normal curb height and supported on wheels and tires, tighten control arm-to-crossmember pivot bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Check and adjust front end alignment as necessary. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
To install, reverse removal procedure. With vehicle at normal curb height and supported on wheels and tires, tighten control arm-to-crossmember pivot bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Check and adjust front end alignment as necessary. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
