Test G: Memory Mirror Inoperative

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to data link connector. Perform Driver Door Module (DDM) self-test. If no DDM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DDM DTCs exist, perform appropriate test or step. See DTC TEST table.

    (1) See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX (DDM) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Perform Driver Seat Module (DSM) self-test. If no DSM DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DSM DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX (DSM) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  3. Operate both mirror through all positions. If both mirrors operate through all positions, go to next step. If either mirror does not operate through all positions, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM CHART under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. Activate memory feature at memory switch to both memory position. If memory feature operates properly, go to next step. If memory feature does not operate properly, go to step 6).
  5. Activate memory feature at remote transmitter to both memory position. If memory feature operates properly, memory feature is okay at this time. If memory feature does not operate properly, repair keyless entry system. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM article.
  6. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If memory switch LED is not always illuminated, go to next step. If memory switch LED is always illuminated, go to step 23).
  7. Observe DDM PID MEMS_SW on NGS tester. Press memory set switch. If NSG tester displays OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, go to next step. If NSG tester does not display OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, go to step 14).
  8. Press and release memory set switch. If memory switch LED remains on for 5 seconds, go to next step. If memory switch LED does not remain on for 5 seconds, go to step 14).
  9. Observer DDM PID MEM1_SW on NGS tester. Press memory switch position No. 1 button. If NSG tester displays OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, go to next step. If NSG tester does not display OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, go to step 13).
  10. Observer DDM PID MEM2_SW on NGS tester. Press memory switch position No. 2 button. If NSG tester displays OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, replace DSM. If NSG tester does not display OFF when switch is pressed and OFF when released, go to step 13).
  11. Disconnect DDM harness connector C520. Measure voltage at terminal No. 20 (Brown/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace DDM.
  12. Disconnect DDM harness connector C520 and seat control switch harness connector C509. Measure voltage at terminal No. 20 (Brown/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Orange wire. If voltage does not exist, replace seat control switch.
  13. Disconnect DDM harness connector C520. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 20 (Brown/Orange wire), No. 21 (Brown/Light Green wire) and No. 33 (Black/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If any resistance reading is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If all resistance readings are more than 10 k/ohms, go to step 15).
  14. Disconnect driver seat switch harness connector C509. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 20 (Brown/Orange wire), No. 21 (Brown/Light Green wire) and No. 33 (Black/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If any resistance reading is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. If all resistance readings are more than 10 k/ohms, replace driver seat switch.
  15. Disconnect driver seat switch harness connector C509. Measure resistance in Brown/Orange wire between terminal No. 20 at DDM harness connector C520 and terminal No. 5 at driver seat switch harness connector C509. Also, measure resistance in Brown/Light Green wire between terminal No. 21 at DDM harness connector C520 and terminal No. 6 at driver seat switch harness connector C509. Also, measure resistance in Black/Orange wire between terminal No. 33 at DDM harness connector C520 and terminal No. 7 at driver seat switch harness connector C509. If all resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If any resistance reading is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire.
  16. Disconnect DDM harness connector C520. Measure voltage at terminal No. 21 (Brown/Light Green wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace DDM.
  17. Disconnect driver seat switch harness connector C509. Measure voltage at terminal No. 21 (Brown/Light Green wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Light Green wire. If voltage does not exist, replace driver seat switch.
  18. Disconnect DDM harness connector C520. Measure voltage at terminal No. 33 (Black/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace DDM.
  19. Disconnect driver seat switch harness connector C509. Measure voltage at terminal No. 33 (Black/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C520. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Black/Orange wire. If voltage does not exist, replace driver seat switch.
  20. Disconnect DDM harness connector C521. Measure voltage at terminal No. 14 (White/Orange wire) at DDM harness connector C521. If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, replace DDM.
