Test F: No Communication With EVO Control Module
NOTE:
For 1998 models equipped with air suspension, see ELECTRONIC - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article in SUSPENSION. For 1999 models equipped with air suspension, see TEST G .
NOTE:
When instructed to perform or repeat manual test (with EVO control module), see MANUAL TEST (WITH EVO CONTROL MODULE) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVO control module connector C294 See Figure. EVO control module is located behind center of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 5 (Black wire). If zero volts is indicated, go to next step. If any voltage is indicated, replace EVO module. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module).
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 5 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between EVO module connector and ground. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 7 (Light Blue/Pink wire). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Light Blue/Pink wire between EVO module connector and fuse No. 5 located in instrument panel fuse panel. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module).
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of Orange/Black wire between EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 4 and EVO diagnostic connector C292, terminal No. 2. See Figure and Fig 1 . Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and EVO diagnostic connector C292, terminal No. 2 (Orange/Black wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short in Orange/Black wire. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module).
- Measure resistance of Orange/Light Blue wire between EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 3 and EVO diagnostic connector C292 terminal No. 4. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and EVO diagnostic connector C292 terminal No. 4 (Orange/Light Blue wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short in Orange/Light Blue wire. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module).
- Measure resistance of Light Green wire between EVO module connector C294 terminal No. 2 and EVO diagnostic connector C292 terminal No. 5. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and EVO diagnostic connector C292 terminal No. 5 (Light Green wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace EVO control module. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short in Light Green wire. Repeat manual test (with EVO control module).
