Spare Ignition Key Programming
NOTE:
Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) module requires 2 ignition keys be programmed before it will allow engine to be started. If SCIL module is replaced, any additional ignition keys must be programmed. SCIL module has capacity to store programming for 8 ignition keys. Ignition key must be cut to correct angles for vehicle.
- Cycle ignition switch from OFF to RUN position with a programmed ignition key. After anti-theft indicator light remains on steady for 3 seconds, remove ignition key from ignition. Anti-theft indicator light is located on indicator light module at center of instrument panel.
- Within 15 seconds, insert a NEW coded ignition key into ignition switch and turn ignition switch to RUN or START position. If SCIL module has accepted ignition key, anti-theft indicator light will come on steady for 3 seconds and SCIL module will enable vehicle to start. Repeat procedure for any remaining ignition keys.
- If programming was not successful, anti-theft indicator light will flash for 15 minutes under the following circumstances and proper procedure must be performed:
- If no ignition key code is received due to ignition key being damaged or not encoded. Try another encoded ignition key.
- If ignition key code is received, yet vehicle still will not start. Ignition key is improperly programmed. Repeat programming procedure.
- If programming procedure is unsuccessful, NEW ignition key was not installed within 15 seconds, ignition key is not coded or all memory locations in SCIL module are full. Repeat programming procedure if programming procedure is unsuccessful or NEW ignition key was not installed within 15 seconds.
