Test N: Automatic Dimming Inoperative

  1. Check vehicle for optional left side automatic dimming mirror. If left mirror is automatic dimming, go to step 7). If left mirror is not automatic dimming, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Inside Mirror Connector C901. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. Check voltage at connector C901 terminal No. 7 (Black/Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step 5). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.

  3. Turn ignition off. Remove Fuse 4 (10 Amp) from fuse panel. If fuse is okay, repair Black/Pink wire and retest. If fuse is bad, go to next step.
  4. Check continuity between connector C901 terminal No. 7 (Black/Pink wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair Black/Pink wire short to ground and retest. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace inside mirror and retest.
  5. Check continuity between connector C901 terminal No. 6 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire and retest. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition on. Place shifter in reverse. Check voltage at connector C901 terminal No. 5 (Black/Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, replace mirror and retest. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Black/Pink wire and retest.
  7. Turn ignition on. Place shifter in reverse. Set dimming control adjuster to HIGH. If inside mirror darkens and outside left mirror does not, go to next step. If mirrors do not operate as noted, go to step 2).
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect left mirror connector C509. Test mirror dimming by connecting a D-size battery (1.5 volts or less), positive to terminal No. 8 (purple wire) and negative to terminal No. 18 (Light Blue/White wire). If mirror dims, go to next step. If mirror does not dim, replace mirror glass and retest.
  9. Turn ignition off. Check voltage at connector C509 terminal No. 18 (Light Blue/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 11).
  10. Disconnect inside mirror connector C901. Check voltage at connector C509 terminal No. 18 (Light Blue/White wire). If battery voltage exists, repair Light Blue/White wire short to power. If battery voltage does not exist, replace inside mirror and retest.
  11. Check voltage at connector C509 terminal No. 8 (Purple wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 13).
  12. Disconnect inside mirror connector C901. Check voltage at connector C509 terminal No. 8 (Purple wire). If battery voltage exists, repair Purple wire short to power and retest. If battery voltage does not exist, replace inside mirror and retest.
  13. Check continuity between connector C509 terminal 18 (Light Blue/White wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to step 15).
  14. Disconnect inside mirror connector C901. Check continuity between connector C509 terminal No. 18 (Light Blue/White wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,00 ohms or less, repair Light Blue/White wire short to ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace inside mirror and retest.
  15. Check continuity between connector C509 terminal No. 8 (Purple wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,00 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to step 17).
  16. Disconnect inside mirror connector C901. Check continuity between connector C509 terminal No. 8 (Purple wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,00 ohms or less, repair Purple wire short to ground and retest. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace inside mirror and retest.
  17. Disconnect inside mirror connector C901. Check continuity between connector C901 terminal No. 3 (Light Blue/White wire) and connector C509 terminal No. 18 (Light Blue/White wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Light Blue/White wire and retest.
