Test F: Memory Function Inoperative

  1. With both doors closed, note both outside mirror positions. Press memory set button and within 5 seconds, press memory 1 button. Using mirror switch, move both mirrors to a new position, ensuring both move vertically and horizontally. Press memory set button and within 5 seconds, press memory 2 button. If both mirrors move properly, go to next step. If mirrors do not function properly, see SYSTEM TEST B or C.
  2. Press memory 1 button. Press memory set button and within 5 seconds, press memory 1 button. If LED lights, press memory 2 button and go to next step. If LED does not light, test memory seat switch. See SEATS - POWER article.
  3. Press memory 1 button. If mirrors move to exact position set instep 1), press memory 2 and 1 several times to ensure consistent operation. If no problems are noted, system is okay. If mirrors do not move to memory positions consistently, go to next step.
  4. Press memory 1 button. Press memory 2 button. If mirrors do not move, test memory seat switch. See SEATS - POWER article. If mirrors move, go to next step.
  5. Using a voltmeter, backprobe potentiometer inputs at DSM connector C313 for motions that did not work. See POTENTIOMETER INPUT INDEX.

    Motion Wire Color
    Driver Horizontal Red/White
    Driver Vertical Dark Blue/White
    Passenger Vertical Purple/White
    Passenger Horizontal Dark Green/White

If all readings are less than .5 volt, repair Gray/Red wire to DSM for open or short to ground and retest. If all readings are not less than .5 volt, go to next step.

  6. If both circuits for one mirror are less than .5 volt, repair Gray/Red wire to affected mirror for open or short to ground and retest. If one mirror circuit is not less than .5 volt, go to next step.
  7. If any circuit is less than .5 volt, check affected circuit for open or damaged potentiometer. If all circuits are more than .5 volt, go to next step.
  8. If any one circuit is constant between .5-4.5 volts, replace affected mirror motor and retest. If no circuit is constant between .5-4.5 volts, go to next step.
  9. If all circuits are between 4.5-5 volts, repair Gray wire open and retest. If all circuits are not between 4.5-5 volts, go to next step.
  10. If all circuits are 5 volts or less, replace DSM and retest. If all circuits are more than 5 volts, go to next step.
  11. Check seat and mirror potentiometer circuits for short to battery voltage. See SEAT POTENTIOMETER CIRCUIT INDEX TABLE. If battery voltage exists on any circuit(s), repair circuit short to battery voltage and retest. If battery voltage does not exist on any circuit, system is normal.
