Pinpoint Test J - Automatic Locking System Diagnosis
- Unplug RKEM connectors C1 and C2. Test for continuity between connector C1 pin No. 1 (Black wire) and ground, and between pin No. 15 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair appropriate Black wire between connector C1 and ground.
- Test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 5 (Gray/Red wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Gray/Red wire between connector C2 and ground.
- With driver's seat unoccupied, measure resistance between connector C2 pin No. 14 (White wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not than 100 ohms, go to step 5).
- Unplug driver's seat switch, located under seat. Test for short between connector C2 pin No. 14 (White wire) and ground. If short exists, repair White wire between RKEM and driver's seat switch. If no short exists, replace driver's seat switch.
- With driver's seat occupied, test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 14 (White wire) and White wire at driver's seat switch connector. If continuity does not exist, repair White wire.
- With driver's seat occupied, test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 14 (White wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, replace driver's seat switch, or repair ground connection at switch.
- Unplug RKEM connectors. Test for voltage between connector C2 pins No. 1 (Orange wire) and No. 5 (Black/White wire). If voltage is at least 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 9 volts, repair Orange wire from fuse panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Test for voltage between connector C1 pins No. 14 and 25 (both Black/White wires), and connector C1 pins No. 1 and 15 (both Black wires). If voltage is at least 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 9 volts, repair Black/White wire from fuse panel.
- Operate each courtesy light switch to turn on corresponding courtesy light. If switches and courtesy lights come on, go to next step. If any switch or courtesy light does not operate, replace switch or bulb as necessary, or repair Gray wire between connector C1 pin No. 17 and courtesy lights.
- Rotate headlight switch to full off position. Open one door at a time. Test for continuity between Light Green/Yellow wire circuit and connector C1 pin No. 17 (Gray wire) with door open, then closed. If continuity exists with door open and does not exist with door closed, go to next step. If continuity is not as described, replace defective switch or repair damaged wiring.
- Disconnect anti-theft control module (if equipped). Anti-theft control module is located under right side of instrument panel. With all doors closed, test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 9 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair Black/Orange wire, or replace door ajar switch.
- Open one door at a time. Test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 9 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity exists only when either door is open, go to next step. If continuity is not as described, repair wiring or replace door switch as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between connector C2 pin No. 6 (Pink/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage exists, replace ignition switch. If voltage is zero, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector C2 pin No. 6 (Pink/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is not at least 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is at least 10 volts, go to step 16).
- Turn ignition off. Test for short between connector C2 pin No. 6 (Purple/Orange) and ground. Test for continuity between connector C2 pin No. 6 and Purple/Orange wire at ignition switch. If continuity exists and Pink/Orange wire is not shorted, go to next step. Repair open or shorted Pink/Orange wire as necessary.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector C2 pin No. 16 (Black/Pink wire) and ground. Shift transmission into Reverse. Measure voltage when transmission selector is set into all other positions. If voltage is at least 10 volts in Reverse and zero volts in all other ranges, temporarily substitute known good RKEM, then retest system. If voltage is not as described, go to next step.
- Check operation of back-up light switch. Replace back-up light switch if not operational. If back-up light switch operates normally, repair open or short in Black/Pink wire.
