Pinpoint Test D: VAPS Module & Harness Check
- VAPS Harness Connector Check
Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector from control module. Connect ohmmeter between circuit No. 57 (Black wire) and ground. Check resistance. If resistance is less than 15 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 15 ohms, repair harness and repeat step 1). - VAPS Harness and Connector Check
Remove VAPS connector from module. Connect voltmeter ground lead to circuit No. 57 (Black wire). Turn ignition on. Check and record voltage at each terminal in connector. See VAPS HARNESS CIRCUIT VOLTAGE .VAPS HARNESS CIRCUIT VOLTAGECircuit No. (Wire Color) Function Volts (DC) 57 (Black) Ground Less Than .1 200 (Brown) Diagnostic Less Than .1 298 (Purple/Orange) Power Battery 495 (Tan) Actuator Less Than .1 496 (Orange) Actuator Less Than .1 497 (White) Actuator Less Than .1 498 (Pink) Actuator Less Than .1 606 (White/Light Blue) Diagnostic Less Than .1 676 (Pink/Orange) Speed Sensor (1) 679 (Gray/Black) Speed Sensor (1) Blank VIP Less Than .1 (1) Specification is not available. If voltage in each circuit is not as specified, repair harness as necessary and repeat step 2). If voltage in each circuit is as specified, go to next step.
- VAPS Harness and Connector Test
Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, check and record resistance between ground circuit No. 57 (Black wire) and each remaining circuit. See VAPS HARNESS CIRCUIT RESISTANCE .VAPS HARNESS CIRCUIT RESISTANCECircuit No. (Wire Color) Function Ohms 200 (Brown) Diagnostic Open 298 (Purple/Orange) Power 3.6 495 (Tan) Actuator Open 496 (Orange) Actuator Open 497 (White) Actuator Open 498 (Pink) Actuator Open 606 (White/Light/Blue) Diagnostic Open 676 (Pink/Orange) Speed Sensor 0.6 679 (Gray/Black) Speed Sensor 195 If resistance for each circuit is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair harness as necessary and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 2).
- Actuator Electrical Check
Using ohmmeter, check and record resistance between circuits No. 495 (Tan wire) and No. 496 (Orange wire). See Figure. Check resistance between circuits No. 497 (White wire) and No. 498 (Pink wire). If resistance is 43-70 ohms, replace VAPS module and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 2). If resistance is greater than 70 ohms or less than 43 ohms, repair harness and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 2). - VAPS Harness & Connector Check
Ensure all doors and hood are closed. Turn ignition off. Connect ohmmeter positive lead to circuit No. 57 (Black wire). See Figure. Ground ohmmeter negative lead. Check resistance. If resistance is less than 15 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 15 ohms, repair harness and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 1). - VAPS Harness & Connector Check
Ensure ignition is off. Connect voltmeter positive lead to circuit No. 298 (Purple/Orange wire) and negative lead to circuit No. 57 (Black wire). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Check voltage. If voltage is 12 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 12 volts, repair harness and connectors and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 1). - Continuity Check
Using ohmmeter, check continuity of circuit No. 606 (White/Light Blue wire) between DLC and control module connector. See Figure and Figure. If continuity exists, replace VAPS module and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 1). If circuit is open, repair harness and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 1). - Data Link Connector (DLC) & VAPS Harness Check
Ensure doors and hood are closed. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VAPS harness from control module. Using ohmmeter, check resistance in circuit No. 606 (White/Light Blue wire) between DLC and VAPS control module connector. See Figure and Figure. Resistance should be 2 ohms or less.Using voltmeter, check voltage in circuit No. 606 (White/Light Blue wire) between DLC and VAPS control module connector. Voltage should be less than 0.1 volt.
Using ohmmeter, check resistance in circuit No. 200 (Brown wire) between DLC and VAPS control module connector. Resistance should be 2 ohms or less.
Using voltmeter, check voltage in circuit No. 200 (Brown wire) between DLC and VAPS control module connector. Voltage should be less than 0.1 volt.
If voltage and resistance readings are as specified, go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 2). If resistance and voltage readings are not as specified, repair harness and go to PINPOINT TEST A , step 2).
