Pinpoint Test AE

  1. Turn ignition on. Press MCCA buttons. Observe message center. If seat belt chime or ignition key chime sounds, go to next step. If neither chime sounds, replace warning chime module, located behind lower center of instrument panel.
  2. Turn ignition on. Press button with suspected problem. If no beep occurs, go to next step. If beep occurs, system is okay.
  3. Unsnap message center switch module from instrument panel. Inspect harness connections to switch circuit board. If connections are okay, go to next step. Repair connections as necessary.
  4. Disconnect switch module. Remove EIC. See, under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (EIC) R & I  . Check for continuity between switch harness pin No. 1 and harness connector pin No. 29, and between switch harness pin No. 4 and harness connector pin No. 4.See Fig 1 . If continuity exists for both checks, go to next step. If continuity does not exist for both checks, repair appropriate open circuit between EIC and switch harness connector.

  5. Measure resistance between connector Pin No. 1 and Pin No. 4 while pressing button with problem. I resistance is not as specified, replace MCCA switch module. If resistance is as specified, replace EIC.
    • SELECT: 1700-2200 ohms
    • RESET: 800-990 ohms
    • SYSTEM CHECK: 350-480 ohms.
NOTE: Gauge may take several minutes to respond.
