Light Sequence Test Procedure

  1. Determine customer complaint as accurately as possible. If reduced braking ability is described, use caution in evaluating vehicle.
  2. Turn ignition to "OFF" position for a minimum of 15 seconds. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position and observe "BRAKE" and "Check Anti-Lock Brakes" lights. If accumulator has been discharged, both lights may remain on for approximately 30 seconds. If this occurs, allow lamps to turn off and turn ignition off for another 15 seconds. If lights do not go out within 30 seconds, proceed to step 5).
  3. Turn ignition on. Observe warning lights. At this time, "BRAKE" light should remain off. "Check Anti-Lock Brakes" light should come on for 3 to 6 seconds and then go out.
  4. Turn ignition switch to "START" position and observe warning lights. Both warning lights should illuminate while the ignition switch is in the "START" position.
  5. When engine starts, release key to the "RUN" position and observe warning lights. The "BRAKE" light should turn off immediately. The "Check Anti-Lock Brakes" light should remain on for 3 to 6 seconds and then go off.
  6. Drive the vehicle at a minimum speed of 20 mph for a short period of time and observe the warning lights. Both lights should remain off for this step and the remainder of the test. Note as accurately as possible the conditions under which light comes on.
  7. Stop the vehicle using a normal brake application. Both lights should remain off. Place the transaxle in "Park" and allow the vehicle to idle for a few seconds. Observe the warning lights. Both should remain off.
  8. From the information obtained in the test above, determine the light sequence and/or symptom which most closely matches the behavior of the complaint vehicle and perform the indicated tests.
