Air Induction

Air enters the engine through the throttle body at a rate controlled by the throttle valves, which are connected to the accelerator linkage. Fast idle speed position (cold engine speed control) of the throttle valves is controlled by a fast idle cam connected to and positioned by a bi-metallic spring (similar to a conventional automatic choke). The fast idle cam drops, reducing fast idle, as the spring is heated by an electric heating element and is assisted by a vacuum controlled kickdown mechanism.
