DTC P0500-31: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" No Signal [12/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Drive the vehicle.
    2. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Speed

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Values displayed on GTS and speedometer display not equal A
      Values displayed on GTS and speedometer display equal B

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2021 - ]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - ECM) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector.
    • Disconnect the ECM connector.
    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I6-35 (+S) - B70-33 (SPD) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Post-procedure1

    • None

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK COMBINATION METER SYSTEM 
    1. Check the circuits that send vehicle speed signals to this system in the combination meter system.

      Refer to Speed Signal Circuit [12/2021 - ]

  4. CLEAR DTC 

    Pre-procedure1

    • None
    • Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

      Result

    Post-procedure1

    • Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

    Result: 

    NEXT

  5. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    • Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      HINT: 

      If no DTCs (no pending DTCs) are output to the GTS, the repair has been successfully completed.
