DTC P16B4-79: Multi Flow Control Valve Stopper Mechanical Linkage Failure [12/2017 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P16B4-79) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P16B4-79 is output A
      DTC P16B4-79 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P16B4-79 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2017 - 09/2018]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2018 - 09/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2019 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2020 - 10/2022]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2022 - 10/2023]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2023 - ]

  2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS AND CHECK VEHICLE (CHECK FOR OVERHEATING) 
    1. Perform a customer problem analysis to check whether overheating occurred.

      HINT: 

      Check whether "High coolant temperature warning light" was displayed on the combination meter.

  3. CHECK VEHICLE (CHECK FOR OVERHEATING) 
    1. Check the engine coolant quantity.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2017 - ]

      At or below reserve tank LOW level or trace of coolant boiling over A
      At or above reservoir tank LOW level and no trace of coolant boiling over B

  4. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK 
    1. Check the engine cooling system for coolant leaks.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2017 - ]

      OK

      No leaks.

  5. REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA 
    1. Repair any engine coolant leaks.

      HINT: 

      Check for damage to parts due to overheating and replace any abnormal parts.

  6. ADD COOLANT 
    1. Fill the reservoir tank up to the FULL line with engine coolant.

      Refer to REPLACEMENT [12/2017 - ]

      HINT: 

      Add engine coolant and perform air bleeding after repair.

  7. REPLACE WATER CONTROL VALVE 
    1. Replace the water control valve.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2023 - ]

    REPLACE COOLANT

    HINT: 

    When replacing any cooling system parts, if excessive deposits of rust or scale exist or the concentration of the engine coolant is abnormal, replace the engine coolant.
