Center Differential Lock Switch Circuit [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Check the center differential lock indicator light.
    3. Press the center differential lock switch.
    4. After 60 seconds, check the center differential lock indicator light.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The center differential lock indicator light blinks, turns off or illuminates A
      Center differential lock indicator light remains off regardless of switch operation B
      Center differential lock indicator remains illuminated regardless of switch operation C
      Center differential lock indicator light rapidly blinks D
      1. Blinking: Blinks at 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
      2. Rapidly blinking: Blinks at 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)

    Result: 

    END

  2. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE 
    1. Select "Bus Check" from the System Selection Menu screen, and follow the prompts on the screen to inspect the CAN bus.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2021 - ]

      OK

      "Bus Check" indicates no malfunctions in CAN communication.

      Result

      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    Result: 

    CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2019 - ]

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Four Wheel Drive / Data List.
    6. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

  4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Perform an Active Test of the combination meter assembly using the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2019 - ]

    3. Check the combination meter assembly.

      OK

      The center differential lock indicator light turns on or off in accordance with the Techstream.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSPECT METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2019 - ] 

  5. INSPECT CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH 
    1. Remove the center differential lock switch.

      Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

    2. Inspect the center differential lock switch.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - ]

      OK

      The center differential lock switch operates normally.

      Result

      NG B

    Result: 

    REPLACE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU - CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the G41 4 wheel drive control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the G9 center differential lock switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G41-6 (DL) - G9-9 (CPU) Always Below 1 Ω
      G9-6 (L) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE 
    1. Select "Bus Check" from the System Selection Menu screen, and follow the prompts on the screen to inspect the CAN bus.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2021 - ]

      OK

      "Bus Check" indicates no malfunctions in CAN communication.

  8. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCK INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Four Wheel Drive / Data List.
    6. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.
      FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

      Blink3, Blink2, Blink1, ON or OFF
      • Blink3: Indicator light rapidly blinks
      • Blink2: Indicator light blinks 3 times

      • ON: Indicator light illuminates
      • OFF: Indicator light turns off
      • Blinking: 0.5 second intervals (0.5 seconds on and 0.5 seconds off)
      • Rapidly blinking: 0.25 second intervals (0.25 seconds on and 0.25 seconds off)
      1. Turn the center differential lock switch on and off several times and check the Techstream display condition of the center differential lock indicator light.

        Result

        Data List continues to display ON even when center differential lock switch is operated A
        Data List display changes according to center differential lock switch operation B

    Result: 

    REPLACE 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
