Removal [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 

    (Refer to PRECAUTION [07/2015 - ] )

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column) 
    1. Disable the auto tilt away function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [07/2015 - ] ).
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto tilt away function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation disables the auto tilt away function when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [07/2015 - ] ).

  3. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACE STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL LH 
  5. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - 08/2016] Refer to REMOVAL [08/2016 - ] )

  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    See step  3

  7. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ] )

  8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.

    2. Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover, and disengage the 2 claws.

    3. Insert a finger into the opening of the tilt lever of the lower steering column cover to disengage the claw and remove the lower steering column cover.

  9. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column) 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover, and disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

  10. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides from the upper steering column cover.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the upper steering column cover.

  11. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
    2. Disengage the 3 claws to remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering post assembly.

      NOTE:
      • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
      • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
      • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
  12. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, loosen the clamp as shown in the illustration.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering link assembly.

    3. Remove the bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering link assembly.
  13. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and guide to remove the No. 2 air duct sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly.
    2. Disconnect the 2 connectors.

    3. Disengage the clamp.

    4. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column
      1. Remove the bolt to separate the ground wire.

      2. Remove the 4 nuts and the steering post assembly.
    5. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column
      1. Remove the bolt to separate the ground wire.

      2. Remove the 4 nuts and the steering post assembly.
  15. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly.

      Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering post assembly.
    3. Remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
