Rear Window Defogger System does not Operate [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test.
    5. Perform the active test according to the display on the Techstream.
      AIR CONDITIONER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Defogger Relay (Rear) Rear window defogger OFF/ON -

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Rear window defogger does not operate. A
      Rear window defogger operates (w/ Multi-display). B
      Rear window defogger operates (w/o Multi-display). C

    C → See step   12 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT DEFOGGER RELAY (DEFOG) 
    1. Remove the DEFOG relay from the luggage room junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 4 Battery voltage not applied between terminals Below 1 Ω
      3 - 4 Battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Battery voltage not applied between terminals 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE DEFOGGER RELAY (DEFOG) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the DEFOG relay to the luggage room junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the J58 connector from the air conditioning amplifier assembly.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J58-3 (RDFG) - J58-20 (GND) Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

      (to Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reconnect the J58 connector to the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J58-3 (RDFG) - J58-20 (GND) Window defogger switch on Below 1 V
      J58-3 (RDFG) - J58-20 (GND) Window defogger switch off 11 to 14 V

      *1 Component without harness connected
      (Air Conditioning Amplifier Assembly)

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - DEFOGGER RELAY (DEFOG)) 
    1. Remove the DEFOG relay from the luggage room junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Luggage room junction block assembly DEFOG relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO SETTING CONDENSER (INSTALLED INSIDE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the defogger fuse and radio setting condenser (installed inside luggage room junction block assembly) from the luggage room junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Luggage room junction block assembly radio setting condenser (installed inside luggage room junction block assembly) terminal 1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *1 DEFOG Fuse
      *2 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to luggage room junction block assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. REPLACE RADIO SETTING CONDENSER (INSTALLED INSIDE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Replace the radio setting condenser (installed inside luggage room junction block assembly).
    2. Check the rear window defogger operation.

      OK

      The rear window defogger operates normally.

    NG → END (RADIO SETTING CONDENSER (INSTALLED INSIDE LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) WAS DEFECTIVE) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (LUGGAGE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY - BACK WINDOW GLASS) 
    1. Remove the defogger relay from the luggage room junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the g1 back window glass battery side connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Luggage room junction block DEFOG relay terminal 3 - g1-1 (B) Always Below 1 Ω

      (to Back Window Glass)
      *3 DEFOG Relay

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK WINDOW GLASS - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the g2 back window glass body ground side connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      g2-1 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   13 

  10. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the air conditioning amplifier assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] .
    2. Check the window defogger operation.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Rear window defogger operates. A
      Rear window defogger does not operate (w/ Multi-display). B
      Rear window defogger does not operate (w/o Multi-display). C

    A → END (AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  11. REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] 
  12. REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] 
  13. REPLACE BACK WINDOW GLASS. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] 
  14. REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ] 
  15. REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2013 - ]
