VGRS System Stops or does not Operate [04/2013 - 10/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [04/2013 - 10/2016]

      Chassis > VGRS > Trouble Codes

      DTC is output B

    Result: 

    GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [04/2013 - 10/2016]

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ABNORMAL OPERATION HISTORY) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Chassis / VGRS / Data List / Abnormal Operation History.
    6. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Abnormal Operation History.

      Chassis > VGRS > Data List

      The number of times that overheat status of VGRS became "Overheat-Weak" and then the control was limited.

      HINT: 

      When there is a decrease or increase in power source voltage, or during overheating prevention, VGRS system operation stops temporarily.

  3. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS 
    1. Check if operation stopped under harsh conditions, such as the steering wheel being repeatedly turned while the vehicle is stationary.

      HINT: 

      When the torque load is large, such as when driving on rough roads, VGRS system operation stops to protect the system.

  4. CHECK STEERING EFFORT 
    1. Check the steering torque when the steering wheel is turned with the vehicle stopped.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [04/2013 - ]

      OK

      The steering torque is normal.

      HINT: 

      When the steering effort is large, VGRS system operation stops to protect the system.

    GO TO POWER STEERING SYSTEM (PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE). Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [04/2013 - 08/2015]  , or refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2015 - 10/2017]

  5. CHECK STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check for abnormal noise or vibration in the steering actuator assembly.

      OK

      Neither abnormal noise nor vibration occurs.

    REPLACE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2013 - 10/2016]

  6. CHECK VGRS SYSTEM 
    1. Operate the steering wheel and check that the system recovers.

    REPLACE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2013 - 10/2016]
