    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z53-4 (DIST) - z51-2 (DIST) Always Below 1 Ω
      z53-6 (ECC) - z51-10 (ECC) Always Below 1 Ω

NG → REPLACE NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE

    OK: Go to next step

  3. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH
    1. Disconnect the steering pad switch connector from the spiral cable.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
2 (DIST) - 10 (ECC) Distance control switch on (pushed) Below 1 Ω
Distance control switch off (pushed again) 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   8

    OK: Go to next step

  4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE
    GTY401714Courtesy of © TOYOTA, LICENSE AGREEMENT TMS1002
    1. Check the spiral cable and connector for scratches, cracks, dents and chips. If any defects are found, replace the spiral cable with a new one.
    2. Check the spiral cable.
      1. Set the spiral cable to the center position. Refer to REMOVAL [01/2012 - ] .
      2. After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise, and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Then rotate the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise, and measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        z53-4 (DIST) - E109-12 (DIST) Always Below 1 Ω
        z53-6 (ECC) - E109-2 (ECC)
      3. After setting the spiral cable to the center position, rotate the spiral cable 2.5 times clockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
        NOTE:

As the spiral cable may break, do not rotate the spiral cable more than the specified amount.

        Standard Resistance

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        z53-4 (DIST) - E109-12 (DIST) Always Below 1 Ω
        z53-6 (ECC) - E109-2 (ECC)

    NG → See step   9

    OK: Go to next step

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - DISTANCE CONTROL ECU AND BODY GROUND)
    1. Disconnect the E86 distance control ECU connector.
      GTY417384Courtesy of © TOYOTA, LICENSE AGREEMENT TMS1002
    2. Disconnect the E109 spiral cable connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E109-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      E109-12 (DIST) - E86-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
E109-11 (DIST) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK → See step   6

  6. REPLACE DISTANCE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ]
  7. PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [01/2012 - ]
  8. REPLACE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ]
