DTC U0130: Lost Communication with Steering Effort Control Module: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work. Refer to PRECAUTION [01/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the CAN main wire and the CAN branch wire.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [01/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CAN BUS WIRE (STEERING CONTROL ECU CAN BRANCH WIRE) 
    1. Disconnect the E84 steering control ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E84-9 (CANH) - E84-20 (CANL) Engine switch off 54 to 69 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Steering Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE STEERING CONTROL ECU CAN BRANCH WIRE OR CONNECTOR (CANH, CANL) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STEERING CONTROL ECU - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [01/2012 - ] .

    2. Disconnect the E82 and E83 steering control ECU connectors.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E82-10 (+BI) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      E82-8 (PIG) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      E82-3 (IG) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E82-7 (PGND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      E83-8 (PGD2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Steering Control ECU)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   5 

  5. REPLACE STEERING CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [01/2012 - ]
