DTC P0335: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit; DTC P0337: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low Input; DTC P0338: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Input: Procedure

  1. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (SENSOR POWER SOURCE)

    1. Disconnect the E54 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E54-3 (VC) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.0 V

    NG → See step   7 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the E54 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the E1 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E54-1 (NE) - E1-27 (NE+) Always Below 1 Ω
      E54-2 (NE-) - E1-34 (NE-) Always Below 1 Ω
      E54-1 (NE) or E1-27 (NE+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E54-2 (NE-) or E1-34 (NE-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)

    1. Check the crankshaft position sensor installation.

      OK

      Sensor is installed correctly.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE (TEETH OF SENSOR PLATE) 
    1. Check the teeth of the sensor plate.

      OK

      Sensor plate does not have any crack or deformation.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Replace the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to REMOVAL [09/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0335, P0337 AND/OR P0338) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Clear DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [09/2012 - ] .
    3. Put the engine in inspection mode. Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [09/2012 - ] .
    4. Turn the Techstream ON.
    5. Idle the engine for 20 seconds or more.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    7. Read DTCs.
      RESULT

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      No output A
      P0335, P0337 and/or P0338 B

      HINT: 

      If the engine does not start, replace the ECM.

    B → See step   11 

    A → END 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the E54 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the E1 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E54-3 (VC) - E1-18 (VC) Always Below 1 Ω
      E54-3 (VC) or E1-18 (VC) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   10 

  8. REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE. Refer to  REPLACEMENT [09/2012 - ] 
  9. SECURELY REINSTALL. Refer to  INSTALLATION [09/2012 - ] 
  10. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2012 - ] 
  11. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2012 - ]
