Front Wiper Motor Circuit: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FRONT WIPER MOTOR)
    1. Select the Active Test, use the Techstream to generate a control command, and then check the front wiper motor.
      NOTE:

When a Body No. 5 (front light ECU) related vehicle switch is ON, Active Test items related to the vehicle switch are prohibited (double operation prohibition). Check that the vehicle switches are OFF before performing Active Test.

      FRONT LIGHT ECU:

Tester Display Test Part Control Range
Wiper Motor HI Wiper motor HI operation ON / OFF
Wiper Motor LO Wiper motor LO operation ON / OFF

      OK

      Front wiper motor operates.

    NG → See step   2

    OK → See step   4

  2. INSPECT FRONT WIPER MOTOR
    • SST: 09843-18040
    1. Remove the front wiper motor. Refer to REMOVAL [09/2012 - ] .

    2. Check the LO operation.
      1. Connect the positive (+) battery lead to terminal 1 (+1) of the connector and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 5 (E), and check that the motor operates at low speed.

        OK

        Motor operates at low speed

    3. Check the HI operation.
      1. Connect the positive (+) battery lead to terminal 4 (+2) of the connector and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 5 (E), and check that the motor operates at high speed.

        OK

        Motor operates at high speed

    4. Check the automatic stop operation.
      1. Connect the positive (+) battery lead to terminal 1 (+1) of the connector and the negative (-) battery lead to terminal 5 (E). With the motor operating at low speed (LO), disconnect terminal 1 (+1) to stop the wiper motor operation at any position other than the automatic stop position.
      2. Using SST, connect terminals 3 (+S) and 1 (+1). Then connect the positive (+) battery lead to terminal 2 (B) of the connector to restart the motor operation at low speed (LO).
      3. Check that the motor stops automatically at the automatic stop position.

        OK

        Automatically stops.

    NG → See step   5

    OK: Go to next step

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FRONT WIPER MOTOR - FRONT LIGHT ECU AND BODY GROUND)
    1. Disconnect the A32 motor connector.

    2. Disconnect the A51 ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A32-2 (B) - A51-2 (WIG) Always Below 1 Ω
      A32-1 (+1) - A51-8 (S/S) Always Below 1 Ω
      A32-4 (+2) - A51-9 (+2) Always Below 1 Ω
      A32-3 (+S) - A51-1 (S/M) Always Below 1 Ω
A32-5 (E) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
A32-3 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
A32-2 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
A32-4 (+2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
A32-1 (+1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK → REPLACE FRONT LIGHT ECU (FRONT CONTROLLER)

  4. PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [09/2012 - ]
  5. REPLACE FRONT WIPER MOTOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2012 - ]
