DTC C1297/97: Steering Angle Sensor: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC
    1. Clear the DTC. Refer to DTC CHECK/CLEAR [08/2012 - ] .
    2. Turn the engine switch off.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and check that no CAN communication system DTC is output.
    4. Start the engine.
    5. Drive the vehicle and turn the steering wheel to the right and left at a speed of 24 mph (35 km/h) and check if brake control system DTC and/or a CAN communication system DTC are output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
Neither a CAN communication system DTC nor brake control system DTC is output A
CAN communication system DTC is output B
Brake control system DTC is output C

      HINT:

When DTCs indicating a CAN communication system malfunction are output, repair the CAN communication system before repairing each corresponding sensor.

B → REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM)

C → REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS (BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM)

    A: Go to next step

  2. INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 24 mph (35 km/h) or more for approximately 5 seconds.

      HINT:

The 4WD control ECU acquires steering angle sensor zero point every time the engine switch is turned on (IG) and vehicle is driven at 24 mph (35 km/h) or more for approximately 5 seconds. The ECU stores the previous zero point.

    4. Select the "Data List" on the Techstream. Refer to DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST [08/2012 - ] .
      DATA LIST: 4WD

Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition
Steering Angle Value Steering Angle Value/
      Min.: -3276.8 deg
      Max.: 3276.7 deg
      Left: -3276.8 deg
      Center: Approx. 0 deg
      Right: 3276.7 deg
    5. Check that the steering angle sensor value changes in accordance with the steering wheel movement.

      HINT:

      • Steering sensor value displayed on the Techstream is as follows:
        • The steering wheel is centered: approximately 0 deg.
        • The steering wheel is fully turned to left: -3276.8 deg.
        • The steering wheel is fully turned to light: 3276.8 deg.

      Standard

The steering angle sensor value changes in accordance with the steering wheel movement.

    NG → See step   3

OK → REPLACE 4WD CONTROL ECU
