Wiper and Washer Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Switch / Data List.
    5. Read the display on the Techstream.
      COMBINATION SWITCH (WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY)

      Front Washer Switch Front washer switch / ON or OFF ON: Front washer switch ON
      OFF: Front washer switch OFF      		 -
      Front Wiper Mist Switch Front wiper MIST switch / ON or OFF ON: Front wiper switch in MIST
      OFF: Wiper switch not in MIST      		 -
      Front Wiper Auto Switch*1 Front wiper AUTO switch / ON or OFF ON: Front wiper switch in AUTO position
      OFF: Wiper switch not in AUTO position      		 -
      Front Wiper Hi Switch Front wiper HI switch / ON or OFF ON: Front wiper switch in HI
      OFF: Wiper switch not in HI      		 -
      Front Wiper Lo Switch Front wiper LO switch / ON or OFF ON: Front wiper switch in LO
      OFF: Wiper switch not in LO      		 -
      Front Wiper Intermittent Switch*2 Front wiper INT switch / ON or OFF ON: Front wiper switch in INT
      OFF: Wiper switch not in INT      		 -
      Ignition Switch Signal Engine switch signal / ON or OFF ON: Engine switch on (IG)
      OFF: Engine switch off      		 -
      Wiper Volume Position*2 Front wiper volume (sensitivity) / 0 to 90 degrees 0 degrees: FR wiper volume "+" position
      27 degrees: Switch is turned one notch towards the "-" side from the FR wiper volume "+" position
      63 degrees: Switch is turned one notch towards the "+" side from the FR wiper volume "-" position
      90 degrees: FR wiper volume "-" position      		 If the value is NG, replace the windshield wiper switch assembly. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] .

      *1: w/o Auto Wiper System

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   3 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY - BATTERY AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the J26 windshield wiper switch assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J26-1 (B) - J26-5 (E) Always 11 to 14 V
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly)

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   4 

  3. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2012 - ]  
  4. REPLACE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ]
