Propeller Shaft Assembly: Installation: Installation

  1. INSTALL PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply grease to the flexible coupling centering bushings.

      Grease

      Molybdenum disulphide lithium base NLGI No. 2

    2. Align the matchmarks on the transmission companion flange and flexible coupling.

    3. Install and tighten the 3 bolts, 3 washers and 3 nuts.

      Torque: 79 N*m (805 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      The bolts should be installed from the propeller shaft side.

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bush.
    4. Align the matchmarks on the differential companion flange and flexible coupling.

    5. Install the 3 bolts, 3 washers and 3 nuts.

      Torque: 79 N*m (805 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      The bolts should be installed from the propeller shaft side.

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bush.
    6. Temporarily install the 2 bolts with the adjusting washers.

      HINT: 

      Use the adjusting washers which were removed.

  2. TIGHTEN NO. 1 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Adjust the dimension between the edge surface of the center support bearing and the edge surface of the cushion to 11.5 to 13.5 mm (0.452 to 0.531 in.) as shown.

    2. Check that the center line of the bracket is at a right angle to the shaft axial direction.

    3. Tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

    4. Using SST, tighten the adjusting nut.

      • SST: 09922-10010 

      Torque: 69 N*m (700 kgf*cm, 51 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 34.5 cm (13.6 in.).

  3. INSPECT AND ADJUST NO. 2 AND NO. 3 JOINT ANGLE (for Long Body) 
    1. Stabilize the propeller shaft and differential.
      1. Turn the propeller shaft several times by hand to stabilize the center support bearing.
    2. Check the No. 2 and No. 3 joint angles.
      1. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the intermediate shaft and propeller shaft.
        • SST: 09370-50010 

        HINT: 

        SST should be set directly underneath the shaft.

      2. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the differential.
        • SST: 09370-50010 

        HINT: 

        Measure the installation angle by placing SST in the positions shown.

      3. Calculate the No. 2 joint angle.

        No. 2 joint angle

        A - B = 0°28' to 1°22'

        Intermediate shaft installation angle

        Propeller shaft installation angle

      4. Calculate the No. 3 joint angle.

        No. 3 joint angle

        B - C = 1°29' to 2°23'

        B

        Propeller shaft installation angle

        C

        Differential installation angle

        If the measured angle is not within the specified range, adjust it with the center support bearing washers.

    3. Adjust the No. 2 joint angle.
      1. Select an appropriate center support bearing washer thickness from the table below, and obtain a washer set.

        Standard adjustment washer

        Thickness
        2.0 mm (0.0787 in.)
        4.5 mm (0.1772 in.)
        6.5 mm (0.2559 in.)
        9.0 mm (0.3543 in.)
        11.0 mm (0.4331 in.)
        NOTE:
        • Each set contains 2 washers.
        • Using the washer set, perform the adjustment.
  4. INSPECT AND ADJUST NO. 2 AND NO. 3 JOINT ANGLE (for Standard Body) 
    1. Stabilize the propeller shaft and differential.
      1. Turn the propeller shaft several times by hand to stabilize the center support bearing.
    2. Check the No. 2 and No. 3 joint angles.
      1. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the intermediate shaft and propeller shaft.
        • SST: 09370-50010 

        HINT: 

        SST should be set directly underneath the shaft.

      2. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the differential.
        • SST: 09370-50010 

        HINT: 

        Measure the installation angle by placing SST in the positions shown.

      3. Calculate the No. 2 joint angle.

        No. 2 joint angle

        A - B = 0°26' to 1°20'

        Intermediate shaft installation angle

        Propeller shaft installation angle

      4. Calculate the No. 3 joint angle.

        No. 3 joint angle

        B - C = 1°40' to 2°34'

        B

        Propeller shaft installation angle

        C

        Differential installation angle

        If the measured angle is not within the specified range, adjust it with the center support bearing washers.

    3. Adjust the No. 2 joint angle.
      1. Select an appropriate center support bearing washer thickness from the table below, and obtain a washer set.

        Standard adjustment washer

        Thickness
        2.0 mm (0.0787 in.)
        4.5 mm (0.1772 in.)
        6.5 mm (0.2559 in.)
        9.0 mm (0.3543 in.)
        11.0 mm (0.4331 in.)
        NOTE:
        • Each set contains 2 washers.
        • Using the washer set, perform the adjustment.
  5. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the propeller shaft heat insulator with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

  6. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Install the heat insulator with the 4 nuts.

      Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

  7. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  8. INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
