Speaker Circuit: Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the stereo component amplifier assembly and speakers.
    2. Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 2 speakers and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
      STANDARD RESISTANCE W/ FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P28-3 (FL+) - M12-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-9 (FL-) - M12-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-4 (FR+) - L5-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-10 (FR-) - L5-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      STANDARD RESISTANCE W/O FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P28-1 (FL+) - M12-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-5 (FL-) - M12-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-2 (FR+) - L5-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-6 (FR-) - L5-2 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance between each of the front No. 1 speakers and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.
      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P51-3 (WFL+) - M13-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-8 (WFL-) - M13-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-10 (WFR+) - L1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-9 (WFR-) - L1-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    4. w/o Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear speakers and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P51-4 (RL+) - Q21-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-11 (RL-) - Q21-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-5 (RR+) - P46-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-12 (RR-) - P46-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    5. w/ Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between the front No. 4 speaker and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P28-8 (CTR+) - K2-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-7 (CTR-) - K2-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    6. w/ Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear No. 2 speakers and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P51-4 (RL+) - Q20-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-11 (RL-) - Q20-3 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-5 (RR+) - P45-1 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P51-12 (RR-) - P45-3 (-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. w/ Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between the stereo component speaker and the stereo component amplifier assembly to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P28-1 (WF1+) - P21-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P28-2 (WF2+) - P21-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    8. w/ Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear No. 2 speakers and the rear speakers to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Q20-2 (+TW) - Q21-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      Q20-4 (-TW) - Q21-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      P45-2 (+TW) - P46-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      P45-4 (-TW) - P46-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Measure the resistance between the stereo component amplifier assembly and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.
      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P51-3 (WFL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-8 (WFL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-10 (WFR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-9 (WFR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-4 (RL+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-11 (RL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-5 (RR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P51-12 (RR-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P28-1 (WF1+) - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P28-2 (WF2+) - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P28-4 (FR+) - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P28-10 (FR-) - Body ground*1 Always 10 kΩ or higher

      *1: w/ Front Center Speaker

      *2: w/o Front Center Speaker

    10. w/ Front Center Speaker:

      Measure the resistance between each of the rear No. 2 speakers and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Q20-2 (+TW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Q20-4 (-TW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P45-2 (+TW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P45-4 (-TW) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check

      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        W/O FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        M13-1 - M13-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        L1-1 - L1-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        W/ FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        M13-1 - M13-2 Always 5.0 to 8.5 Ω
        L1-1 - L1-2 Always 5.0 to 8.5 Ω

  3. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check

      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

        Standard Resistance

        W/O FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        Q21-1 - Q21-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        P46-1 - P46-2 Always 3.2 to 4.8 Ω
        W/ FRONT CENTER SPEAKER

        Q21-1 - Q21-2 Always 5.0 to 7.0 Ω
        P46-1 - P46-2 Always 5.0 to 7.0 Ω

  4. CONFIRM MODEL

  5. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER

      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
        STANDARD RESISTANCE

  6. INSPECT FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER 
    1. Resistance check
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  7. REPLACE FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER 
    1. Check that the malfunction disappears when a known good speaker is installed. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      Malfunction disappears.

      HINT: 

      • Connect all the connectors to the front No. 3 speakers that were disconnected.
      • When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one with the left one.
      • Perform the above inspection on both LH and RH sides.

    NG → See step   20 

    OK → END (FRONT NO. 3 SPEAKER WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  8. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER

      L5-1 (+) - L24-1 (SQ+) Always Below 1 Ω
      L5-2 (-) - L24-3 (SQ-) Always Below 1 Ω

  9. REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER 
    1. Check that the malfunction disappears when a known good speaker is installed. Refer to REMOVAL .

      OK

      Malfunction disappears.

      HINT: 

      • Connect all the connectors to the front No. 2 speakers that were disconnected.
      • When there is a possibility that either the right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one with the left one.

  13. REPLACE REAR NO. 2 SPEAKER
